Psalm 23:4

I wanted to highlight a familiar passage from the 23rd Psalm in today’s scripture study.

In verse 4, David says:
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Notice that it is the SHADOW of death, not death itself that David highlights. I feel like this is an important distinction to emphasize. The fear of many believers is not death itself but the approach or threat of death with its uncertainty and potential suffering or the shadow the death of a loved one casts over our relationships.
David addressed this very fear. In times of grave uncertainty and invisible threats from unknown sources, God Himself is beside us. His rod (correction and discipline) and His staff (protection) give us confidence that we can rely on His close companionship as we walk through this current dangerous and uncertain time.
It is also important to realize that God doesn’t promise to remove us from danger or wall us off from hardships. But He does assure us we are NEVER alone. For He is with us.
Do not fear this week. Do not become consumed with things you can’t affect. But do offer hope to those around you and share a kind word and a helping hand to those who need help or those who just need to know someone is out there who cares about them.
In Him,
